Heather and Sam were new parents, still adjusting to life with their infant son. The first few months were filled with sleepless nights, tender moments, and the overwhelming joy that comes with welcoming a child into the world. On the recommendation of their older neighbors, they decided to hire help around the house.

From the beginning, she made a strong impression. Warm, attentive, and seemingly sincere, she assured them she would care for their home as if it were her own. Over time, she became more than just someone who cleaned and tidied up — she felt like a familiar presence in their daily routine.

One afternoon at the park, while watching little Daniel play, Heather ran into her neighbor Katherine. Known for her sharp observations and tendency to stir conversations, Katherine casually planted a seed of doubt.

“Doesn’t it seem like she’s gotten a little too comfortable?” she asked. “Almost like she belongs there more than you do?”

The comment lingered.
